📋 When to Use the Image Format Converter

The Image Format Converter is ideal when you need to convert between formats or units quickly — whether you're reformatting data for a different tool, preparing content for a client, or just trying to make sense of incompatible file types. Use it when working remotely without access to desktop software, when sharing screens in a meeting and need a fast conversion, or when you want to avoid uploading sensitive files to unknown servers. Everything processes in your browser for maximum privacy.

⚙️ How the Image Format Converter Works

The Image Format Converter processes your input using conversion algorithms that run entirely in your browser. When you paste or upload content and select the output format, JavaScript parses the input, transforms it using format-specific logic (encoding, decoding, parsing, serializing), and produces the converted output. For file conversions, all processing uses browser-native Canvas and FileReader APIs — your files are never uploaded to any server. The entire pipeline from input to output stays on your device.

How to Use the Image Converter

  1. Upload images — drag and drop files onto the upload zone or click to browse. You can add multiple images at once (PNG, JPEG, WebP, BMP supported).
  2. Choose the output format — select JPEG, PNG, or WebP from the dropdown. For JPEG and WebP, adjust the quality slider (0.1–1.0) to balance file size vs. quality.
  3. Convert files — click "Convert" on individual images or "Convert All" to batch process everything. Conversion happens entirely in your browser.
  4. Download results — click the green ⬇️ button on each converted image to save it. Compare original and converted file sizes to see compression savings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my data uploaded to a server?

No. All image processing uses the Canvas API in your browser. Files never leave your device — the converter works fully offline after the page loads.

Which format should I choose?

JPEG — best for photos, small file size. PNG — best for graphics with transparency or sharp edges. WebP — modern format with best compression for both photos and graphics (supported by all modern browsers). BMP (input only) — uncompressed, large files.

What quality setting should I use for JPEG?

0.85 is the sweet spot — good visual quality at roughly 1/3 the file size of PNG. Use 0.7–0.8 for web images where file size matters. Use 0.95–1.0 for archival quality.

Does the converter preserve transparency?

PNG and WebP preserve transparency. JPEG does not support transparency — transparent areas will be filled with white. Convert transparent images to PNG or WebP to keep alpha channels.
