🎂 Age Calculator
Find out your exact age and discover fun facts about your birth date.
Enter your date of birth and this calculator instantly returns your exact age broken down into years, months, days, hours, and minutes. It also identifies your zodiac sign, shows a countdown to your next birthday, and displays total days lived. All calculations run locally in your browser — your birth date is never transmitted or stored.
📋 When to Use the Age Calculator
Reach for it whenever you need an exact age rather than a rough "about 30." Fill in the precise years-months-days a form or application asks for; work out how old a child is to the day; check the age gap between two people; or count down the days to a birthday or milestone. It's also just fun to see oddly specific numbers — how many days, hours, and minutes you've been alive, or which zodiac sign a birth date falls under.
A note on scope: this tool measures age from your date of birth up to today, so it's built for "how old am I (or someone) right now." It works with calendar dates, not clock times or time zones, so the hours and minutes are counted from midnight on your birth date. If you instead need the gap between two arbitrary dates — say two past events — the Date Difference Calculator is the better fit.
⚙️ How the Age Calculator Works
Working out an exact age sounds like simple subtraction, but it isn't. If you just subtract birth year from the current year, you'll be wrong for anyone who hasn't had their birthday yet this year. This tool does it properly: it takes the difference in years, months, and days separately, and when the current day-of-month is earlier than your birth day, it "borrows" a month and adds that month's real length — which is why months of 28, 30, and 31 days all come out correct rather than approximated.
The leftover totals — days, hours, and minutes alive — come from a straightforward time difference: the gap between midnight on your birth date and now, divided into each unit. Leap years are handled automatically, because they're simply real days on the calendar that the date maths already counts. The zodiac sign is read from the month and day of birth against the standard Western date ranges, and the birthday countdown finds your next birthday on the calendar and counts the days remaining.
Everything runs locally in your browser using JavaScript's built-in date handling. Your date of birth is used only to do the calculation on your device — it isn't saved, stored, or sent to any server, so nothing remains once you close the tab.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why isn't my age just "this year minus my birth year"?
Because that ignores whether your birthday has happened yet this year. If you were born in December and it's only June, subtracting years alone would count a birthday you haven't reached. This calculator compares the month and day too, so it only counts a full year once you've actually had that year's birthday — which is the same way ages work on official forms.
How does it handle leap years and different month lengths?
Automatically. The maths works on real calendar dates, so a leap day (29 February) and the difference between 28-, 30-, and 31-day months are all taken into account. When the current day is earlier in the month than your birth day, it borrows the actual number of days from the previous month rather than assuming every month is 30 days.
I was born on 29 February — when does my age change?
A leap-day birthday only lands on the calendar once every four years. In ordinary (non-leap) years this calculator rolls your age over on 1 March, so you still gain a year on schedule even when 29 February doesn't exist that year.
How many days, hours, and minutes old am I?
Alongside your years, months, and days, the tool shows the running totals: your whole life expressed as a single number of days, of hours, and of minutes. These are counted from midnight on your date of birth, so they're a fun, oddly specific way to mark milestones — your 10,000th day, for instance.
Is my date of birth stored or shared?
No. The calculation happens entirely on your device in your browser. Your date of birth is never saved, stored, or sent to any server, and nothing is kept once you close the tab.
Can I find the difference between two specific dates instead?
This tool measures age from a birth date up to today. If you need the gap between two arbitrary dates — two past events, or a start and end date — the Date Difference Calculator is designed for exactly that and is linked below.
